CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT OF I.I.T. HYDERABAD – A GREENFIELD PROJECT by Prof. K.V. L. Subramaniam, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad.
Profile of the Speaker:
Prof. K.V. L. Subramaniam is currently a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. He was the Dean (Planning and Development) at IIT Hyderabad and oversaw the Phase I construction of the new campus. He continues to serve as the Dean (Planning) and is currently in-charge of Phase II expansion of the campus. Prof. Subramaniam has prior experience of teaching at the City College of New York. He graduated from I.I.T. Delhi with a B.Tech. and obtained his Ph.D. from Northwestern University (U.S.A.).
Abstract:
The campus development of IIT Hyderabad from its conception is reviewed. The planning required to provide for growth of the campus in a phase-wise manner is presented. The features in the campus that allow phase-wise expansion are described. Considerations resource planning and utilization for environmentally responsible growth are detailed. The conceptualization of few buildings and the designs involving consideration of energy and green building considerations are described.
